Kenya national women’s basketball team are expected to jet out of the country for Cameroon where they will take part in the 2021 women’s AfroBasket that begins on Saturday.

The Lionesses will be without the influential Felmas Koranga, who led Kenya in Africa Zone V Championships in Rwanda, where she was voted the Best Power Forward and Vilma Achieng.

Coach George Mayienga has drafted in Ivy Opicho and Selina Okumu in place of Koranga and Cecilia Okumu, the only two changes to the squad that won the Zone V championships.

The Lioness bagged the automatic Africa Zone V ticket by stunning Egypt 99-83 in the final in Kigali.

Kenya’s last AfroBasket outing in Dakar in 2019 was disastrous as they lost all their matches but they hope to put up a better performance this time around, playing in pool A alongside Cameroon and Cape Verde.
