Alex Telles: Porto’s most prized asset courted by big Clubs

We take a quick look into the profile of  FC Porto’s left-back- Alex Telles, who has been on the radar of two clubs [Chelsea and Barcelona] lately.

Questions arise as to why these two clubs have been on the pursuit of this brilliant left-back. It’s not as if both clubs don’t have good left-backs at their disposal, but there must have something that Telles must have possess for him to be on their radar.

To be honest, Barcelona has a player who is one of the very best in that position in the person of Jordi Alba, While Chelsea boasts of Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri. But what seems to be synonymous between these clubs is their pursuit of Alex Telles.

The 27-year old Brazilian versatile left-back has only one cap for his country and has the likes of Marcelo, Alex Sandro, Felipe Luis, and Renan Lodi to compete with at such position.

Well, it is much of a  surprise that quality such as Alex Telles is down the pecking order in the national team considering his excellent form for the Portuguese side as Porto’s hotshot in the team and one of the top performers in the Champions League.

Below are some facts you need to know about Alex Telles.

Alex Telles made his breakthrough in 2014 in Europe after he made his move from his native Brazil to Galatasaray in Turkey. He, however, made a short loan spell to Inter Milan and showed glimpses that he is ready for top European football before Porto snapped him up entirely.

Telles is a Jordan day full-back as his ability to cross and attack, defend and maintain position makes him a standout and top player.

Apart from these, he has a rare talent that makes him so useful, his long-shot accuracy, and timely runs into the 18-yard box as he uses his power to bomb forward against opposition fullbacks and wingers, making them thinking on their spots he is quite a handful to deal with. He boasts of 8 goals in 30 games played and five assists.

It remains to be seen which of these two clubs wins the signature of this beautiful left-back by the time the summer approaches. For now, leagues across Europe are suspended until further notice due to the COVID-19 virus.
