Olympique Lyon’s record signing Joachim Andersen has said the best memory he has in the French Ligue 1 club shirt was his first goal against Benfica in the UEFA Champions League group game.

Lyon later scaled through the group and paired against Serie A champions, Juventus. The Rudi Garcia’s tutored side won the first leg 1-0 before COVID-19 pandemic forced suspension of other fixtures.

Danish defender also said his second memorable experience was the team’s comeback against RB Leipzig after being down 2-0 to equalize 2-2.

It has not been a rosy journey for the defender, having endured an up and down campaign that has seen him being left out of the squad differently.

But got the goal the team needed against Benfica November 2019 through an early headed opener and they later went on to win the match 3-1.

Speaking on the Leipzig comeback, he said Lyon played well in the second half of the encounter to share the spoils which helped them to get the second round ticket at the expense of Zenith St Peterborough and Benfica.

Now with a 1-0 advantage against Juventus,  the date for the return leg remain unknown as the world battles COVID-19 pandemic that has killed over 140,000 people worldwide, with about 2,500,000 people infected.

Initially, UEFA had decided to play some of the knockout games behind closed doors. But couldn’t do so a week later for some other fixtures after countries announced restrictions.

Speaking on the official Olympique Lyonnais website, the Danish said life in lockdown without the game has been boring after the first week went well.

He also said that he missed not seeing his colleagues at training, adding that he has missed the action, and it is boring to train alone.

As the world continues to curtail the spread of the dreaded virus, it is hoped that football actions will resume with some strict measures on safety.
