Bayern Munich looks set to keep adding value to their department in the squad as aim to compete at every front.

Taking a look at their defense, they have enough personnel after acquiring the likes of Benjamin Pavard and record buy Lucas Hernandez. The duo has been impressive so far, and that position will look solid for years to come.

However, Bayern still wants to solidify their backline by signing Leipzig Dayot Upamecano. The towering center back has been great form for his club as he continues to hold the backline and sailing his club through the Champions League and also helping his club put pressure on the Bavarians.

Reports have it that Leipzig has inserted €60million in the Frenchman’s contract. This seems like a huge price tag to pay for Bayern, but it is reasonable that the price will be worth it as they’ve previously spent €20million on his fellow countryman Hernandez.

Leipzig, on the other hand, will have to cash in on their prized asset as the expiration of his contract will be due by 2021. This could potentially sum up the future to around 40-50m.

The Bavarian hierarchy might not necessarily pull off the signing of Upamecano as it will cause a selection headache for manager Hansi Flick and besides, other players in the defensive position might not be happy as no player will like to warm the bench.

Another reason why Bayern won’t like to spend that much on that position is due to the Coronavirus pandemic outbreak, as clubs will want to cut their spending this window. And with the next purchase of Leroy Sane or Kai Havertz, Bayern can’t try to avoid another significant expense on a defender.
