Camavinga lauds former coach Julien Stéphan

Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga has lauded former Stade Rennais manager Julien Stéphan for his contribution to his development.

Camavinga rose through the club’s rank to become an important player for the side, and Stéphan has input in his emergence.

The French midfielder made his debut for the Ligue one club at the age of 16.

It could be recalled that Stéphan tendered his resignation on Sunday. This was due to a lack of results. The 40-year-old French manager resigned from his post after a home loss to Nice. The defat leave Nice 9th on the table.

Stéphan had spent nine years at the club. He began with the U19s before moving to coach the first team after the Ligue 1 club fired former manager Patrick Vieira. During his time as coach of the reserve team, Stéphan trained and developed some talents, in which Camavinga, who has been on top clubs’ radar, is one of them.

The creative midfielder is one of the best revelations of the club in recent years. Camavinga got into the first team under the tutelage of the trainer. According to the player, he knew the 40-year-old when he was in N3.

Camavinga took to his Twitter account to praise the trainer, expressing his sincere appreciation for everything he did for him. he pointed that Stéphan helped him to discover the adult world from N3 to Ligue 1 via the Champions League. He added that he owed him a lot because he has always put him in the right conditions and get regular advice from him.

Meanwhile, Stade Rennais has confirmed Stéphan’s resignation. The Rouge-et-Noir management appreciated the 40-year-old for his contribution to the club’s development over the years.

The manager took the Ligue 1 club to the Europa League’s knockout stages, helping them to victory in the Coupe de France and final of the Champions Trophy in 2019. He also helped the club qualify for the group stage of the Champions League in 2020.

The club has drafted Philippe Bizeul, his assistant, to act as the interim manager for the time being.
