Cristiano Ronaldo: Portugal star makes sensational return to Manchester United

Portuguese football star, Cristiano Ronaldo, is on his way back to Manchester United after the club confirmed they have reached an agreement to re-sign their former player from Juventus.

United have, reportedly, agreed to pay £12.8m for the 36-year-old, with the deal subject to personal terms, a visa and a medical.

Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner with over 30 major trophies during his career so far, scored 118 goals in 292 games in his first spell at Old Trafford before leaving for Real Madrid in 2009.

“Everyone at the club looks forward to welcoming Cristiano back to Manchester,” said a statement from United.

United’s announcement followed 24 hours of dramatic events over the player’s future, with Manchester City reportedly having agreed personal terms but it is his former club that got the final say.

Ronaldo, who once said in an interview he would only play for United if he ever contemplated a return to England, comes back to the club where it all started and where he spent six years and won three Premier League titles, one Champions League, two League Cups and one FA Cup. He also bagged the FIFA Club World Cup and Community Shield, all under Sir Alex Ferguson before moving to Real Madrid in 2010.

He would later move to Italy with Juventus, his journey since leaving United being a colourful career that has seen him win four UEFA Champions League titles, three FIFA Club World Cups, four league titles in Spain and Italy, and the European Championship for his native Portugal.
