Champions Tusker continued with their poor start to the season as they suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to premier league newcomers FC Talanta. Robert Matano’s brewers are now bottom of the log.
Francis Kahiro was the hero for Talanta with a brace in between Jackson Macharia’s equalizer.
Tusker, coming into the match on the back of their annihilation by Zamalek in the CAf Champions’ League, found themselves trailing after 10 minutes when they failed to deal with Evans Maliachi’s free-kick from which Kahiro stretched to direct the ball home at the back post.
Tusker came closest to equalizing in the final two minutes of the first half but midfielder Clyde Senaji lost two good chances.
In the second half, Matano made changes, bringing off debutant Stewart Omondi, Njuguna and Rodgers Ouma, replacing them with Shami Kibwana, Boniface Muchiri and Kevin Okoth.
Tusker had moments of dominance with the ball and they got their reward in the 57th minute through Jackson Macharia who successfully connected with Kibwana’s cross.
But the equalizer lasted just five minutes as Kahiro netted his second with a header, unmarked inside the box finishing off Enock Machaka’s cross from the right.
