Former Fiorentina goalkeeper, Sebastien Frey has assured the fans that French winger, Franck Ribery is not planning to leave the club.
Frey noted that the former Bayern Munich winger who wants to help bring the club back up to the top said he remains committed to the club.
Speculation was surrounding the future of the winger after being a victim of a burglary on Sunday night.
Many of the club’s fans had said that he is planning to leave the club in his statement about the incident, thereby condemning the veteran for his remarks.
Reacting to the development while speaking with Radio Toscana, Frey stated clearly that his fellow countryman loves Florence and has never thought about leaving.
Frey, who had played over 200 times for Fiorentina, spoke on behalf of the Frenchman saying they had earlier spoke in the morning, assuring him that he never intended to leave.
He quoted Ribery saying he intends to protect his family, adding that he is sorry about the situation. He also said Ribery told him to reiterate that he loves the city and respects Fiorentina and their project.
Frey, who added that Ribery had at no time thought about leaving, particularly at a difficult time of the club, said the Frenchman wants to respect his contract and try to bring the team back to where it belongs.
While noting that the situation has been exaggerated, Frey assured the fans that Ribery has great respect for the club, fands, and the city. This he said is because they’ve always shown him respect.
Frey, who said Ribery has told him to help him pass the message, said he wouldn’t like the player to go from a hero to a traitor.
Although tempers are flaring at the moment over what happened, Frey said Ribery’s wife has also reiterated his love for the city, adding that the dazzler will probably become one of the players who leave a piece of their heart in Florence.
