Aleksandar Kolarov says he didn’t think twice before accepting an offer from Inter Milan when the San Siro club asked for his service.
The former Manchester City defender joined the San Siro giant, admitting that Antonio Conte influenced his decision.
The 34-year-old signed for the Nerazzurri from Roma for €1.5m plus bonuses.
In an interview with Inter TV, the Serbian International revealed that he had been close to joining the club on several occasions, but he finally managed to arrive this time around.
According to him, the move was an easy choice, adding that once he received the call from the club, he happily accepted the offer.
Kolarov, who s not a stranger to Inter Milan players, has faced hem on several occasions as opponents in the Italian league. Therefore, he is impressed with the squad, adding that Conte is a serial winner, who won the Premier League in his debut season in England. He also said the former Juventus manager had changed Inter in just one season completely. He is, therefore, hoping to do well together with the team and win titles.
Conte’s favourite formation has been 3-5-2. Kolarov is not a stranger to a three-man defence, having already played the role during his stint with Manchester City and, more recently, at Roma.
While noting that Inter, being a team that likes keeping possession, Kolarov expressed delight at joining the club.
Kolarov, who will be 35 in November, had been linked with Bologna. This would have allowed him to reunite with his old friend Sinisa Mihajlovic. He described the former Inter Milan player as his idol while growing up.
Having played for Red Star Belgrade, the Serb said they could be towing the same career pattern since the Bologna manager also had a stint with the Nerazzurri.
During his playing days, Mihajlovic was also a dead ball specialist. Kolarov has scored some freekick as well, drawing comparison of the two as left-backs as well.
