Porto manager Sergio Conceicao demands more from his players

Porto manager, Sergio Conceicao has reacted to the 2-1 defeat suffered by his team against Famalicão at the Estádio Municipal de Famalicão, as football action resumes after coronavirus-enforced lockdown of over two months.

In his post-match interview, the former Porto right-winger called for competitive concentration from his lad.

While taking responsibility for the result, Conceição pointed out that Porto had statistical superiority but said if the team wants to be champions, they have to give more, adding that a single mistake can lead to a loss.

He, therefore, urged the lads to be stronger on and off the field.

Conceicao also said Porto had a clear penalty, which was not given, saying he had a clear view of the handball of a Famalicense defender in the box 18. He said it was no doubt a penalty, saying it was unnecessary to watch it on TV.

The outcome of the game that left the traveling Porto fans who were outside the Stadium disappointed is a blow to their title aspiration with second-placed Benfica, who is a point adrift of Porto having the chance to take over the top spot.

Having led the table earlier in the season, Famalicao, who gained promotion to the top division, is now fifth, with two points separating them from fourth-placed Sporting Lisbon.

Conceicao, who also stated that possession doesn’t win games, said games are won by a team that has a competitive spirit and champion mentality.

He said from the moment Porto failed to convert the clear chances at goal in the first half, the opponent became dangerous.

After restoring parity, the coach said Porto was looking for a win and, almost in the next minute, but conceded the winning goal.

While expressing his disappointment in the outcome, he said he expected more from his lads.
