Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon has shown interest in re-signing Leicester City striker Islam Slimani and hopes to secure his signature before the transfer window reopens.
The former Premier League Champions made the Algerian forward their record signing when he joined from Sporting Lisbon. However, Slimani failed to live up to the price tag paid for him and was sent on loan to Newcastle, Monaco [current loan club 19/20], and Turkish side Fenerbache.
Slimani has registered nine goals with seven assists so far in 18 league matches in Ligue 1, but the French outfit has turned down any attempt to make his loan move permanent this campaign.
A local news outlet in Portugal has reported that Sporting Lisbon might consider re-signing their former most prized asset. During his time at Lisbon, the 31-year old made 111 appearances scoring 57 goals in the space of three years [2013-2016].
Slimani who has been previously linked with the likes of Manchester United, and Spurs has gathered 13 goals and seven assists in 46 League appearances.
Lisbon, on the other side, has, however, had their ups and downs with players contract expiring and the club running into huge debts. This also promoted the sale of their talismanic midfielder and skipper Bruno Fernandes to Manchester United. If they can get Slimani back to the club again, he might rediscover the form that once made him the most expensive Leicester player back then.
Islam Slimani is a dangerous forward who can cause havoc in the opposition defense on his good day. He just has to work hard and get enough game time.
