Thiago Silva has played his last match for Paris Saint-Germain. The former captain expressed his gratitude and sadness after playing his last for the club against Bayern Munich on Sunday.

The Brazilia had guided the Paris club to 23 trophies but the Champions League trophy had eluded him in the process. He had the opportunity to win it after guiding them to the final of the European competition but lost to the Bavarians 1-0 in Lisbon.

Silva had announced that he will be leaving the club some months ago after failing to agree to an extension that will see him earned pay cut. Confirming his departure from the Parisian club during his interview with RMC Sport after the Champions League final, Silva was disappointed not to have won the trophy. He, however, said the players must continue to raise their head with the hope of winning it next time.

Sunday’s final was PSG’s first in the competition the club owners have been wanting to lay their hands on. Kingsley Coman’s 59th-minute header was the difference in the side.

The 35-year-old, who spent eight seasons with the capital club stated that the match was decided on small details. While noting that they knew that Bayern would cross to the far post most of the time as they tend to make use of the wings, the Brazilian said having responded to most of the crosses, PSG was eventually punished.

He also stated that it was unfortunate that his last game for PSG would end in a defeat, Silva said it was even worse for him as things were going on very well in the year except for the Champions League final.

PSG completed the 2019-20 season as French Ligue 1 champions after the league was suspended due to COVID-19. The incredible season also saw them winning the Coupe de la Ligue and the Coupe de France.

This is the fourth time that PSG will be winning treble under the leadership of Silva.
