NCBA Golf Series: 100 to play at Diani edition

The ongoing 2021 NCBA Golf Series heads to the Leisure Lodge Golf Resort this Saturday, October 9, where 100 golfers are drawn to play. The top five finishers at this event will qualify to feature in the Series Finale which will be held in December this year at the Karen Country Club.
So far, 80 golfers have qualified to play in the finale, among them two junior golfers – twelve-year-old Nathan Mwangi who was overall the winner in Karen; and eleven-year-old Mumbi Gatu who won in Limuru.
The Leisure Lodge leg is the 17th in the Series, which returns to action after a two-week break. The 17 events feature a junior golf tournament that was held in August in Karen, where 43 junior golfers aged between 6 and 18 years qualified to play at the Rome Classic and South Africa’s Big Five tournaments.
Twelve of the 43 juniors were selected to play at the Rome Classic, which also takes place this weekend, while the rest will play at the South African event in April next year.
This will be the second time the Series will be heading to the Coast; having previously been hosted at the Mombasa Golf Club and at the Nyali Golf and Country Club in June this year.
Speaking ahead of the event, NCBA Group Managing Director, John Gachora, said:
“We are delighted to be back at the Coast, this time in the South for our 17th event in the calendar. The Coast always offers a different challenge to golfers so we are all looking forward to what Leisure Lodge has in store for us this weekend, and I am certain that all those who will take part in the event will have a great time on course.
“We are also delighted that this event coincides with the Rome Classic junior golf tournament in Italy where 12 juniors who took part in our Junior Golf Series in August will be playing. We wish them success and urge them to bring with them as many learnings as they can from the event. We believe this will go a long way in nurturing their talent and mould them into future golf stars.”
The Series has so far attracted the participation of over 2,000 golfers across the 16 golf clubs that have hosted it, pointing to the existing interest among golfers.  The bank will also be hosting the NCBA Diani Charity Goat Derby on 10th October at the same resort.
A family fun – a fundraising event that seeks to help raise funds for various charity and community activities within the area such as the Palliative Care Center Msambweni, Kwale Eye Center, Ukunda Epilepsy Center, KSPCA –Ukunda, Nimunyumba Special Needs School, Cerebral Palsy Clinic.
