Kenyan trials for World U20 showpiece set as 128 countries confirm entry for Nairobi 2021

The Kenyan trials for the World Athletics U20 Championships will be held over three days starting this Thursday (1st July) at the Moi International Sports Center Kasarani.

A total of 494 athletes across the country will battle it out for a place to represent the country in the championships to be held in Nairobi on 17 – 22 August.

Athletics Kenya’s Barnabas Korir, also a member of the event the Local Organizing Committee, says they will apply same criteria used in selecting the team, which is a 1-2 finish for an automatic ticket in every discipline with the third representative being picked by a panel of technical committee.

More than 128 countries have confirmed participation in the global showpiece, according to LOC boss Myke Rabar.

Rabar is confident that more countries will confirm participation as the dates of the global junior athletics competition draw closer.

The CEO, assured safety to all athletes coming from different walks of life to compete in the event, saying that all the necessary COVID-19 measures as guided by the World Athletics and Ministry of Health have been put in place and will be followed to the letter.
