Safari Rally: Kedong stage cancelled for KNRC drivers as it claims several casualties

The Kedong Stage of the WRC Safari Rally was Friday morning cancelled for Kenya National Rally Championship drivers following, what is believed to be, a result of the stage taking the biggest number of casualties as the dust and rocks on the route took out a few drivers.

Oliver Solberg limped out of the stage with a damaged rear suspension, Dani Sordo broke a front arm while Tejveer Rai rolled at the straight at box 26.

Tejveer shot over a jump and unfortunately nosedived and rolled. He and his navigator are in good health after being taken to hospital for a quick check up.

Kedong is well known for its dusty meanders that choke the vehicles and impairing the drivers’ vision their vision.

World Champion Sebastien Ogier was the first into the stage, battling through the track being cheered on by the wildlife and thousands of fans who have thronged the route to enjoy puttingthe Motorsport spectacle that is making a return to Kenya for the first time since 2003.

The stage started well but turned on it’s head to take out a few casualties, first being Sohanjeet Puee.

Dani Sordo had a broken arm that forced him onto the side of the road at Box 30 after hittng a rock but his car was quickly repaired to get back on the road.

A disappointed Dani tried his best to fix the breakdown in vain beforw finally getting help.

After its initial closure, the stage was reopened in the afternoon for WRC cars.
